傳統(tǒng)動力總成的制動系統(tǒng)可以實現(xiàn)相應(yīng)的減速和短的剎車距離，而純電動汽車、混合動力汽車和插電式混合動力汽車，大部分采用電動馬達(dá)，通過動能回收系統(tǒng)實現(xiàn)減速。因為沒有發(fā)動機(jī)噪音，當(dāng)使用剎車時，無聲制動性能是實現(xiàn)駕駛員和乘客舒適度的關(guān)鍵。減少剎車的使用也會導(dǎo)致剎車盤上的表面腐蝕和生銹，需要迅速拆卸，以確保適當(dāng)?shù)闹苿有阅?。此外，必須有足夠的摩擦功率以保證緊急制動目的，確保短距離停車符合安全要求。
